Legislation / Program Orientation CO/FPO 101 This course offers learners an overview of the legislative framework that impacts fire and life safety activities through which company officers perform their roles. This course provides an orientation to the Company Officer and Fire Prevention Officer Programs and highlights the changes to the Fire Protection and Prevention Act.
Incident Management System (IMS) for Fire Department Officers This course is designed to provide fire department officers with an overview of Incident Management. There will be classroom work as well as some practical sessions on the fire grounds. The course provides officers with an opportunity to hone their skills in commanding small to medium sized incidents. The course is an ideal way to prepare for studying more comprehensive IMS courses taught at the Ontario Fire College in the 500 series.
Flashover - Recognizing Pre-Flashover Conditions for Survival This course, which is conducted in a safe and controlled environment, introduces firefighters to the conditions that can lead to flashover. Course participants gain an enhanced knowledge of fire behavior with an emphasis on factors leading to the potential of flashover. Student-learners will enter a Training Unit wearing full bunker gear during this course.
Firefighter Survival and Rescue This course covers the basic equipment, procedures and techniques for fire fighters to survive in crisis events when they become separated from their team or when fire and building conditions are such that they cause a fire fighter to become trapped. Topics include emergency air management, RIT deployment, the Denver Drill and the Nance Drill.
Fire Scene Assessment This course reflects selected Ontario Fire Services Standards, the current OFM investigation program standards and some of the guidelines of NFPA 921 and 1033. The course includes:
  • roles and responsibilities of OFM personnel, and OFM expertise available
  • roles and responsibilities of the various agencies
  • fire scene safety and security
  • basic chemistry of fire
  • origin and cause
  • evidence collection and preservation
  • documentation, interviewing and report writing
Fire Extinguisher Training The student will become familiar with the different classes of fire, the types of fire extinguishers and extinguishing agents. The student will learn which fire extinguishers and extinguishing agents are effective on the various classes of fire. The student will learn to operate a fire extinguisher in a simulated environment.
NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue The NFPA Rope Rescue Program is designed to provide participants with a full, all-inclusive package for rope rescue. This training is designed for fire fighters. Students will be introduced to climbing and high-angle rescue techniques to a level of trainer in rope rescue. Using certified components and modern techniques meeting NFPA standards, the student will gain practical experience as part of the course. This premiere course is designed to a high level and participants should be ready to be challenged by our qualified instructors.
NFPA 1006 Confined Space Rescue The NFPA Confined Space Rescue Program is designed to provide participants with a thorough knowledge of safely rescuing a person from a confined space utilizing advanced rescue techniques as specified in NFPA 1006. Students will have the opportunity to learn in a simulated environment.
